Radiology Quiz January 2026

In collaboration with Dr. Adrien-Maxence Hespel from the University of Tennessee, we present the following radiology quiz. The goal of this case is to practice identifying radiographic findings and formulating a radiographic diagnosis based on a brief patient description. The final section provides additional information about the treatment.

History

4 year oldβ€―giantβ€―Schnauzer. Pyrexia

Description of the RX images

Thoraxβ€―ventrodorsal andβ€―lateralβ€―radiographs are available for interpretation.

Thorax: The pulmonaryβ€―parenchymaβ€―isβ€―normal. The cardiac silhouette andβ€―pulmonary vesselsβ€―areβ€―normal. The pleural and mediastinal spaces areβ€―normal.

There is mild toβ€―moderateβ€―osteolysisβ€―of theβ€―caudalβ€―endplate of T9 and theβ€―cranialβ€―endplate of T10 which is surrounded byβ€―scleroticβ€―bone. The T9-10β€―intervertebral discβ€―space isβ€―narrowed.

Theβ€―appearanceβ€―of the T9-10β€―intervertebral discβ€―space is most concerning for discospondylitis.

Anβ€―ultrasoundβ€―was performed and confirmed that there wasβ€―biliaryβ€―obstruction. Theβ€―patientβ€―underwent aβ€―cholecystectomy.
