This webinar focuses on the practical and responsible use of antimicrobials in dogs with bacterial skin infections, with canine pyoderma as the central theme. It explains why pyoderma should be considered a secondary problem and reviews the role of Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, as well as the clinical classification
of surface, superficial and deep pyoderma.

A step-by-step diagnostic approach is presented, with particular emphasis on cytology and on deciding when bacterial culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing are indicated. The webinar also discusses how the depth of infection influences treatment choice, why topical therapy should be prioritised for many surface and superficial infections, and in which situations systemic antimicrobial therapy is warranted.

Finally, the webinar reviews first- and second-choice systemic antibiotics, reserved drugs and the management of meticillin-resistant staphylococcal pyoderma. Practical guidance is provided on treatment duration, topical
antiseptic options and strategies to reduce recurrence, with a strong focus on treating the underlying cause and using antimicrobials as judiciously as possible. This webinar is intended for first-line practitioners.
