Radiology Quiz January 2026

In collaboration with Dr. Adrien-Maxence Hespel from the University of Tennessee, we present the following radiology quiz. The goal of this case is to practice identifying radiographic findings and formulating a radiographic diagnosis based on a brief patient description. The final section provides additional information about the treatment.

History

4 year old giant Schnauzer. Pyrexia

Description of the RX images

Thorax ventrodorsal and lateral radiographs are available for interpretation.

Thorax: The pulmonary parenchyma is normal. The cardiac silhouette and pulmonary vessels are normal. The pleural and mediastinal spaces are normal.

There is mild to moderate osteolysis of the caudal endplate of T9 and the cranial endplate of T10 which is surrounded by sclerotic bone. The T9-10 intervertebral disc space is narrowed.

The appearance of the T9-10 intervertebral disc space is most concerning for discospondylitis.

An ultrasound was performed and confirmed that there was biliary obstruction. The patient underwent a cholecystectomy.
