Radiology Quiz June 2026

In collaboration with Dr. Adrien-Maxence Hespel from the University of Tennessee, we present the following radiology quiz. The goal of this case is to practice identifying radiographic findings and formulating a radiographic diagnosis based on a brief patient description. The final section provides additional information about the treatment.

History

4 year old male castrated domesticβ€―shortβ€―hair is presented. On auscultation you hear a heartβ€―murmur.

Description of the RX images

Orthogonalβ€―radiographs of theβ€―thoraxβ€―are available for interpretation.

There isβ€―moderateβ€―cardiomegaly characterized by widening, rounding and elongation of the cardiac silhouette. On the VDβ€―projectionβ€―there is biatrialβ€―enlargement,and the left atrialβ€―enlargementβ€―leads to theβ€―impressionβ€―of a valentine’sβ€―heart. The remaining thoracic structures areβ€―normal. There is no current evidence of cardiac decompensation.

Cardiomegaly is mostβ€―suggestiveβ€―ofβ€―hypertrophic cardiomyopathy No current evidence of cardiac decompensation.
