Radiology Quiz June 2026

In collaboration with Dr. Adrien-Maxence Hespel from the University of Tennessee, we present the following radiology quiz. The goal of this case is to practice identifying radiographic findings and formulating a radiographic diagnosis based on a brief patient description. The final section provides additional information about the treatment.

History

4 year old male castrated domestic short hair is presented. On auscultation you hear a heart murmur.

Description of the RX images

Orthogonal radiographs of the thorax are available for interpretation.

There is moderate cardiomegaly characterized by widening, rounding and elongation of the cardiac silhouette. On the VD projection there is biatrial enlargement,and the left atrial enlargement leads to the impression of a valentine’s heart. The remaining thoracic structures are normal. There is no current evidence of cardiac decompensation.

Cardiomegaly is most suggestive of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy No current evidence of cardiac decompensation.

An echocardiography confirmed the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
