Nicole Willems is a European specialist in small animal surgery and orthopaedics. She graduated from Utrecht University in 2007 and worked as a primary care veterinarian in several veterinary practices. In 2010, she completed an internship at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht.

She subsequently pursued a PhD at Utrecht University, focusing on the development of regenerative strategies for humans and animals with intervertebral disc degeneration, and successfully defended her thesis in 2016.

From 2015 onwards, she combined her PhD research with a position as a veterinarian at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht. She then started her specialist training in surgery at the same institution and, after passing her exams in 2023, was admitted as a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Nicole is a passionate surgeon who is committed to staying up to date with the latest developments in her field and enjoys sharing this knowledge with colleagues.
